Why is veterinary care for my pet(s) so expensive nowadays?

Relatively speaking, veterinary care is a great deal! Actually, the cost of veterinary care has seen a very moderate increase in the past 20 years, especially when compared to the cost of human health care of almost any other service. Bear in mind that your veterinarian is not only your pet's general physician, but also its surgeon, radiologist, dermatologist, neurologist, psychiatrist, and pharmacist. The bill you paid also has to cover the expenses for a doctors degree and maintaining those credentials through scientific journals and attending professional continuing education meetings. Furthermore, your veterinary fees are a reflection of the costs of maintaining suitable facilities, equipment and experienced support personnel to provide the level of care that is expected in animal medicine today.

One reason you sometimes think you are paying more for your pet's health care than your own is that you probably have insurance for you own health care needs. If you actually sat down and added up your insurance costs, deductibles, and pharmaceutical costs, you would find that the figures are actually nowhere close. Several companies now offer insurance for your pet(s) veterinary health needs. Click here to go to our links section for more information.

Why is there such a wide range of prices among veterinary clinics for the same procedure(s)?

Prices are set by each individual veterinary practice and each has different expenses that are covered by the fees charged. Often, the charges do not reflect the same set of services, although some of the components may be the same. The fees for a service are based on varying criteria, such as different drugs, products, anesthetics, antibiotics and pain relievers which have a bearing on the cost of the services. Also, veterinarians use different techniques, lab tests, patient monitoring, equipment and, in general, overhead costs. As with all things, you tend to get what you pay for. We believe in doing the best we can whenever we can unless you, the client, decides otherwise. Our primary goal is to give each patient the quality care we ourselves would demand.
